Traveling Mechanic Recommendation? - frannysf - 09-04-2008 We have a 1987 Ford pickup that stopped running. New battery, so that’s not the problem. But it seems like it doesn’t get gas, tho’ the tank is half full. Maybe the distributor? But we cannot get the distributor cap off to check ‘cause we don’t have the right tool(s). Can anyone recommend a mechanic that might be able to look at it? We’re in lower Puna. Thanks a lot for reading this. Franny RE: Traveling Mechanic Recommendation? - Greg - 09-04-2008 I asked a friend who is a "holistic" mechanic. He suggested you put a ti leaf on the dashboard overnight. RE: Traveling Mechanic Recommendation? - Hotzcatz - 09-04-2008 Doesn't get gas it is more likely the fuel pump, don'tcha think? Distributor is for spark plugs, not gas getting places. Is it fuel injected or carburetor? Fuel injection has high pressure and low pressure pump, carbs only gots one. Check to see if all the fuses are good, I think fuel pumps have fuses, don't they? "Seems like it doesn't get gas" - so you turn the key and the engine turns over but doesn't start? Pump the gas pedal and still no go? Do you smell gas? Can you take the gas line off and see if gas comes out? If you take the gas line off and gas comes out, then it might be lack of spark. Not that I'm a mechanic, but I've driven a lot of old cars. RE: Traveling Mechanic Recommendation? - fastech - 09-04-2008 I may know someone. Are you willing to pay or barter? Also, do you just want it diagnosed or repaired also? quote: RE: Traveling Mechanic Recommendation? - Bullwinkle - 09-05-2008 spark compression fuel if the engine has these three requirements- it will run or at least sputter and pop until you get the ratios right - grin |
