Can you help a Volcano resident? - Rob Tucker - 04-08-2008 If it is true that Volcano is under an evacuation advisory and conditions there force people from their homes I want to ask our Punaweb community this..... Do you have space or ability to consider taking in one or more of our Puna Mauka neighbors? If so please indicate here and we will see how things progress. In many cases I expect that Volcano and other Puna Mauka residents will have friends or places to evacuate to. But in every event of this type there are those who do not and may lack the funds for a hotel. Let's be available to help as best we can. Mahalo all, Punaweb moderator RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - Rob Tucker - 04-08-2008 I'm of the opinion that it might be appropriate to not wait and see but to take a step or two anticipating the need for helping some folks if and when the need occurs. We will hope it will not be necessary. I have one extra bed in my home: Detached Ohana with a double fold down bed on a sleeping porch. Shower, toilet, kitchen. Approx. 100 yards from Pahoa Island Naturals. No fenced yard but there is an unoccupied dog run (cable) and dog house. I also have some farm land (65 acres) available for camping: 1 mile from Pahoa. 3-4 potential camp sites. One site has a screened pavilion and fire pit. Lots of grass. No fencing. No water on site. 965-1555 Punaweb moderator RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - frankiestapleton - 04-08-2008 Right on, Rob, for leading this preparation. I have a spare room and am also willing to accommodate some pets, if people need somewhere to leave pets. Just give a call to 965-8945. Frankie RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - jade - 04-08-2008 Just to let everyone know when you are evacuated and have to go to a shelter you can not bring any pets and the humane society shelters will not take your pets. You must find someone to take them. So people may need help in placing pets. Jade RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - hannah - 04-08-2008 We have 2 rooms. Only outdoor pets. My husband is allergic to dog and cat. hannah RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - Bullwinkle - 04-08-2008 There is always enough room for people in need and their pets, pm me if the sh... hits the fan We have about a 1000 ft of floor space open add to the lanai and another 4 acres for tents and vans ....... Ill light the bar b que at 3 ish - coffee is usually ready at 7 - grin wind stirring up here in FA (1500 feet mile 13 or so no vog) as I type ... hope it builds the cumulus clouds are tracking ne however RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - Rob Tucker - 04-08-2008 Update: There is no immediate evacuation underway at this time. This could change at any minute. I have contacted the Red Cross and the Volcano Community Association to let them know we have people here willing to help. If an evacuation does take place - depending on the wind and the volcano - I may be posting a real need for help. I encourage you to post here only if you are in a position to offer assistance to anyone or animals. Please do not use this topic to discuss vog, wind patterns or conditions. Let's just keep this topic for posting availablities. Mahalo, Punaweb moderator RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - Kapohocat - 04-08-2008 We always have space somewhere here in Kapoho. Cant have dogs but kitties are okay. Deck space or couch surfers okay, carport area that is covered, walls on 2 sides and slab. -Cat RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - hoonanea - 04-08-2008 Thanks so much, Rob. Your site, the VCA & VHC sites are great & keeping us well informed & your openness to having vulcan evacuees in Puna is real Aloha. The lack of traffic up here is a blessing too. RE: Can you help a Volcano resident? - Carey - 04-08-2008 We have 2 mostly finished bedrooms (One with a feral cat we are working on socializing....so there is some cat hair..... ) & a bath, fenced yard for pet (house remodel isn't anywhere near finished, doing it room at a time) There is no smoking on our property (house insurance does not allow & we appreciate no smoke) Downtown Keaau - close to the bus stop.... |
