Installing metal roofing - Royall - 12-21-2005

Is there any online step-by-step intructions for installing a metal roof? On the other hand what is the going labor only rate for installing a roof? Just checking to see if I do it or have it done.

Thanks,

Royall

I'm quite sure that installation instructions will come with the roofing material and it will probably be screwed on using a pressure sensitive rubber grommet. There may also be a more expensive material that hides the fasteners available if you shop around. I also believe if you bring your roofing layout, should it have irregularities hips, valleys, dormers that sort of thing, you can order it all precut cut. Only a suggestion but try to use a screw gun with a torque setting to assure all fastners are properly set.

i paid two guys to do the screwing on(two stories)and one guy to hand it up. took about 4 or 5 hours, about 1450 sf of roof.under $350.00

My SO uses a "nibbler"... cant remember cost as he got it about 4 years ago, New dies (blades??) cost about $30 to replace.

Double check the lengths if HPM does your roofing material (tin) layout, if you do have a lot of hips and valleys. They dont tend to use salvage edges well. (easier for them to calculate and sells more tin...)

Nope, no instructions come with tin roofs.

Set the fasteners on the top of the ribs, not in the valleys. That keeps them from leaking. Set the fasteners so the rubber grommets are a bit squished but not flattened.

Edges of metal roofing are SHARP!

Usually, when roofing, I take a hammer and a couple big nails with me to start the screw holes. I also like a racheting socket with an extension on it to set the screws with. May not be as fast as an electric screw gun, but it is less heavy and the batteries don't give out in the middle of the roof.

A sun hat and a bottle of water might be nice, too.

Went onto the hpm website and when you click on the "installation" guide - it says coming in the future...

I dunno, instructions on how to install a tin roof is sorta like instructions on how to cook rice, don'tcha think?
