Thanks for the heads up Ali! I won't quite be there then but like to know these type workshops are available. I would be interested in this come June, to do garden walls for a raised garden. Aloha, Mella L

Mella,
Unless you want really high walls (3 or more courses?), the simplest and most versatile way to go is just put the blocks end-to-end where you want the wall. I use 8 inch wide blocks, especially if you want to go 2 courses high, but 6 inch wide is OK for a single course. The advantage is you can reorganize the wall whenever you like. The disadvantage is that the blocks can move if you do not step on them carefully, etc.

Here in Baton Rouge, the block-making plants usually have seconds available for 50 cents each, which saves a lot.

4 inch blocks laid flat on their sides make a great floor for a greenhouse.

Thanks Allen, I think the 2 course 8" is all I will need as I'm planning on doing lasagne gardening. That is the layering of composted materials then planting into the layers. My permanent computer is in the shop electrical problems but when I get it back I copied and saved the lasagne gardening instructions. I really like the idea that the blocks can then be moved around. Thanks. Mella L
