Credit for Hurricane preparedness? - Kapohocat - 09-22-2006

Does anyone know anything about the rumor on the cococnut wireless this morning that a local radio show said that there is a 1/3 credit for using hurricane hangers/clips/ etc for Hurricane preparedness?

Cant seem to find any info to substantiate this rumor but it is one that might be valuable to know about.

i read about it in the paper the other day, can't remember which one, the state would reimburse the owner up to a third of the costs for hurricane (proofing?)your home

RE: Credit for Hurricane preparedness? - Kapohocat - 09-23-2006

I dont know answers to any of the questions but... my guess is yes Simpson would be behind it, and 1/3 referred to 1/3 of the cost of the Simspson.

What I am still trying to find is where to get the rebate info / or any info on exactly how it does work. I will try the Tribune Herald...

I read that article a few days ago, and my fuzzy memory seems to recall that the credit was for retrofitting existing homes, not for new construction. Anybody got a link to the article?

Cheers,
Jerry

yea was actually on the 5 news last nite, and i came in at the very end and missed the details, but it did say retro-fitting which i took to be existing construction. i think the news station has a website that might have the details..

The adminastration will also release $2million from the hurricane relief fund, approved by lawmakers last session, to reimburse homeowners up to 35 percent-or a maximum of $2,100-of the cost of installing wind resistant protection to their homes.

RE: Credit for Hurricane preparedness? - Kapohocat - 09-23-2006

Getting closer to the info...

...State lawmakers this year passed a bill (SB690) over Gov. Linda Lingle's veto that includes a 35 percent cash grant to help homeowners pay for repairs that would hurricane-harden an existing home, including investment in residential safe rooms, hurricane clips, window and door protective storm panels, better anchoring, or a higher wind-resistant level of roofing and reroofing. Lingle has not yet released money for the program, Peters said...

RE: Credit for Hurricane preparedness? - Carey - 09-25-2006

Found this article on the retrofit grant program while looking for something completly different:
http://pacific.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2006/09/18/daily64.html
Only I couldn't get the state link to work, so I searched the state site and found this:
http://www.hawaii.gov/dcca/areas/ins/consumer/consumer_information/Hurricane_Retrofits_Program
that has all of the forms and information.
