Bulldozers & Contractors - Crizzy - 10-20-2006

I just bought a lot in HPP and plan to build a house. The whole building process seems so daunting to me and I’m extremely leery of getting ripped off by contractors.

So it was like a breath of fresh air when I met and hired Leo and Steve w/ Affordable Bulldozing (www.affordablebulldozing.com) to clear and prep my lot. Leo has close to 30 yrs experience driving dozers working on projects ranging from highway, resort and golf course construction to prepping over a thousand house pads for individual property owners like myself. Steve is highly professional and was able to begin work on my property three days after I closed escrow!

Integrity and craftsmanship is what I’m looking for when I go to hire a contractor. And since I’m on a shoe string budget, I have to shop for good deals. I’m happy to report that my experience w/ my first contractor was a delight. I now have a sculpted lot ready for a house, driveway, veggie garden, putting green and duck pond! What a scream!

As I move on to the next phase of building, who are other contractors that are highly rated and affordable?

I know the feeling! It isn't like building on the mainland. If you want someone to help you with your project, give Cat a call. She is very active on this board and is also really on top of the process here. Here is her contact info:

Lester Walker at 640-9597 just quoted me $400/for 1 day (cut driveway in and gently curve around trees) - He is also going to try to not have trailer costs since owner was flexible on time. When he has equipment down there in area next week, he will do it.

Lester does good work and is doing a subdivison project (roads, etc) for one of my clients.

I haven’t received the final bill from the Leo yet, we have about another day or two of work. My property had a bunch of albasia trees in the back and several low spots Leo had to fill. But seeing the duck pond excavated has already made me a happy camper, actually the duck pond is for my hubbie. I’m expecting the final bill to be about $6500, again the albasia trees and low spots added extra time to the clock.
