Just curious, what is "STATE LIC INSPECTOR"? Please explain, especial in regards to Hawaii.

hiya in response to your question..state lic inspector - simply means that i have the knowledge and understanding of how to build properly so as to comply with all local building codes.

Be careful Jonathan, soliciting business while un-licensed is against the law here. You can get the licensing process started while on the mainland and just take the test in Honolulu when you get here.

As to the state license for an inspector. I am a licensed TREC (Texas Real Estate Commission)inspector in the state of Tx. (#7955)
My understanding is that there is no licensing of inspectors in HI. As well I'm a licensed Realtor here, one of very few that carry both licenses.
And to answer a question from one of the Johns before they ask it. No I can't, by regulation, inspect any home for any agent that is affiliated with me or my broker, no matter what side of the deal they're on.
LOL.. and one more thing. Yes, I will attempt to do inspections there, but I know there are several good inspectors already there. I do have a few other plans to survive that first year.
So now that we're on the subject....John R. what's the split for a newbie to the island..that has 20+ years in the game?

To my knowledge Hawaii has no licensing/certification of Home Inspectors. Nor do they recognize out of state.
I too, was trained and inspected to ASHI standards - in another non licensing state.
Are all your plans stamped appropriately for Hawaii?
Not trying to bust your chops - just hoping you are aware of the meaning of what you write.

This is a question for John R or David M.
Just curious here. Do they have a state certification for termite inspectors and/or as we say WDI (Wood Destroying Insects)?
In my state the buyer can opt to have a Termite Inspection or they can wait to see if the home inspector calls for one due to areas of the property that are conducive. But sometimes the lender requires one period.
I ask the question because from what I've seen and read the entire east side may be considered conducive.
To Anthony, I think everybody can dig your zeal for the island and to get started there. But, as they have mentioned It is a whole different game, with a different set of rules.

Regardless of what the law requires, I would NEVER sell a house here without advising the seller to expect to pay for a professional termite inspection -- even on a brand-new house. On the flip side, I would never let a buyer buy a house without a termite inspection unless they were getting a great price and were already planning to do it themselves.
