Connect PC to LCD TV or Plasma - Nate SC - 11-24-2007 After mulling over a thread that included HADave. I realized I was not maximizing my audio visual expierience. Most Computers have whats called an "S-video" slot. Most newer TV's also have this "S-video" slot. A simple cord connects the computer to the TV and "Bam baby" your 47 inch is now your monitor. Looks really cool and you can play all the dvd's thru the computer and edit and stuff. The USB port on a newer Tv will support the wireless mouse too, so you can just sit in front of the big screen and not the computer. This would really be usefull in presentations and group discussions. Thanks HADave for laying it out and opening my eyes. "Spectemur Agendo" RE: Connect PC to LCD TV or Plasma - missydog1 - 11-24-2007 you can also use this to watch downloaded shows on your TV. It's no longer necessary to get a DVD in many cases. RE: Connect PC to LCD TV or Plasma - Nate SC - 11-24-2007 Kathy is so right about that. You can also use the DVI to HDMI conversion cable to view HD content over the net. Then maybe use the PC to record your fav shows like a TiVo does. Hmmmmm ? how could I record surveilance video onto the hard drive or temp folder ? RE: Connect PC to LCD TV or Plasma - HADave - 11-25-2007 Hey Nate trade that S-Video cable in for an SVG cable walmart should carry it under 20.00 (6ft long) much better resolution than S-V the only problem I have is finding lengths longer than 6 but then there are always couplers, probably not from Walmart though..... DVI is the best video and will carry all resolutions of HD but sadly the HDMI combo cable seems to be what the masses have turned to. My older laptop only supports the SVG/RGB connection so untill we land hillside we live with the SVG, still great though and on a 42" screen pretty decent!! What is working out really great for us, is when we are having house showings we are playing photo slideshows of our home throughout the seasons, for potential buyers and RE Agents, folks are really impressed. Amazing all you can do with a little thought eh? Aloha HADave S. China / Kurtistown RE: Connect PC to LCD TV or Plasma - Nate SC - 11-27-2007 Is the SGV a 7 wire S-video cable ?? I dont think the LCD has a SGV port ? Unless you can convert the signal to HDMI and connect it that way, I don't understand the connection ? Fry's has all the cable lenghts you could need. I got the S- video cable in 100' lenght there. The cost was cheap, like $19. Now I'm having a issue synchronizing the lap top monitor to the LCD 47". It's either use one or the other I cant seem to get a clone screen. RE: Connect PC to LCD TV or Plasma - HADave - 11-27-2007 nope, it is like a 15 pin D-shell VGA connector sometimes or least my tv manufacturer describes it as RGB, Walmart described as a SVG cable this link may help http://www.flattvpeople.com/tutorials/dec-cable.asp. It will provide you with the same killer video signal as DVI or HDMI but like DVI it only carries video but also like DVI it is joined by and secured with thumb screws. Again just a reminder s-video is only an analog signal and will not carry anything but 480i signal it will not 480p (progessive) or better. Aloha HADave |
