Does anyone know where to get a roll up - chain hoist door? Like the ones they use in the storage buildings.

You can try here or here for some garage doors specifically on the Big Island.
But from what I have heard, THIS company has had good local reviews and has been in business here in the islands for close to 40 years. And they do serve all islands.

there seems to be a smaller market here for garage doors, hence the higher prices....a basic martin door from home depot installed would only cost me $780 in US and over $2200 in hilo area...pretty steep prices...trying out the above three installers and they are all over 2K for a basic non-insulated garage door.

Has anyone seen a home incorporate a garage door as an opening to a lanai? I've seen this kind of idea in a magazine some time ago, but wonder if anyone has actually seen an application. A nice looking garage door would provide a much larger opening than a slider, and much less expensive than a bank of folding doors.

I remember back in Chicago you could buy garage door screens (seems the box home stores had them....) most had zipper or velcro slits, one was more like a flap strip door....
seems they were in the $100 range for a 2 car..... but that is in my dusty brain area....

I remember seeing that in a design mag and thought it would cool. If I remember the dining room floor was the same level as the patio so when it was opened it seemed like a natural progression from inside to outside. No trip lip.

There is a Thai restaurant in Portland Oregon which has a garage door style glass door for one wall. Probably expensive, but it looked great. You could install screen doors which slide into a false wall like shojis so you aren't looking at them when they aren't being used.

Our home will be in Discovery Harbour and we've been exploring those fan-fold doors that open across the whole room. Those things are WAY expensive, so I thought a pair of garage doors would be a reasonable answer. It wouldn't be acceptable unless the doors had glass panels instead of solid. I'd also imagine it not looking totally like a garage door when it's over your head in the living room.
We've spent a fair amount of time in the Discovery Harbour area and I don't think there are so many flying bugs that I would expect to need screening. Is that naive?
