Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - Beachboy - 03-27-2008 ..backyard...aka 'Septic Tank'. Since our mini drought has gone by us all in Puna. The recent rains that followed has sprouted literally millions of Albezia sprouts in and around my lot. The easiest area for these old poor eyes to see them is around where my septic Tank is. This entire area is black cinder. While picking these lil bug-gars yesterday, I was staring at my septic Tank set up. I was curious why my two hatches on Septic Tank were exposed? Most people I know who have Septic Tanks. They seem to only have the three pipes exposed. Now, I'm a product of the 60's & 70's...so my memory is pretty shot. But I swear I was told to leave those hatches exposed so "Muck Divers", have easy access when the time comes. But while picking my Albezia Sprouts, I started fiddling around with my setup. I noticed that both hatch doors were not secure at all!?!? I could just lift hatch doors right off. I immediately thought about my two boys(ages 2yrs & 9yrs), and I imagined one of them falling into the raw sewage!!! So, my question[s] is this. Should those hatch doors be secured and buried in my yard, or what? _______________________________ “Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - Beachboy - 03-27-2008 Rob, any suggestions on how to secure them? I mean they are just sitting on top of the two pukas. I noticed four very small holes around each top? _______________________________ “Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward. George Carlin RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - Rob Tucker - 03-27-2008 I don't know what type of hatches or tanks they might be. It might be as simple as placing a heavy rock on the top of each one for now. Something a 2 or 6 year old can't move. A pile of rock might do. RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - Carey - 03-27-2008 Beachboy, do you have a Chemtainer type with plastic &/or fiberglass? Their instructions call for SS screws, & for a watertight seal, silicone caulk then the screws. If you have a cover w/o the screws, the silicone caulk would probably hold the top on against most keiki action... their instructions PDF is: http://www.chemtainerofhawaii.com/installation.pdf Good Luck! RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - JerryCarr - 03-27-2008 When I saw your topic line, I thought, "Oh, how cool. He has the submarine from 'Lost' in his back yard. I wonder how it got there. I thought Locke blew it up." Yeah, I grew up in the 60's, too. Cheers, Jerry RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - kani-lehua - 03-28-2008 while i know 0-very little about septic tanks and cesspools, i do know that falling into one ihttp://www.kpua.net/news.php?id=13417s very dangerous: malia paha o lohe aku perhaps they will hear RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - Beachboy - 04-04-2008 thank you all for your response! This is really no joking matter for me. I already have had semi nightmares about my boys falling in the pukas! When I return to Oahu to work next week, I don't want the thought of that consuming my every waking moment. It will drive me nuts!!! _______________________________ “"Nothing will work unless you do." Maya Angelou RE: Question about double hatched Green submarine in.. - Carey - 04-04-2008 Did you get the top sealed? If so, what method did you use (way back when I was a young'n, we had a nice big rock on top of our septic tank. Best place to find salamanders was to lift up that rock.....) |
