Pam Is Crazy - pslamont - 05-08-2008 Okay, now that I have your attention, I want to know how many "loyal" punatic friends I have out there. I have a WILD idea to tear down and rebuild my cabin. I have rented it out, work traded it, housed families that had no where to go. Current tenant is leaving and it is TRASHED but that has happened over time. The only realistic choice I have is to take it apart (much of it is screwed, not nailed), salvage whatever we can and rebuild something. I think pouring a cement foundation will make sense. Much of the material is reusable. It could be done FAST if we did it like an old fashioned barn raising. I don't have a ton of cash but I have some. After seeing what can go up in a week in Thailand, I have hope... I imagine we can take it apart in three days with a team of 8 people. I think we can form up the base in a day, have concrete poured, let it sit two weeks and then begin building the structure (maybe even sooner?). It will be single wall like before. Most of the materials will be recycled from what we already have but I can buy some stuff for proper framing. You would be amazed at the extra lumber (2 x 6's, 2 x 8's, 4 x 10 and 4 x 12 beams...) that I have here already. So, is ANYONE interested in a crazy project? The hardest part is that I leave for So Calif on the 14th, back the 3rd of June, and then off to Thailand July 1. Anyone? Talk to me if you have any ideas. I am flummoxed as to what else to do. I can't afford a contractor or even a handyman to do this completely and my body is rebelling against any lifting so I can't even take it apart myself. I pay bad but I feed you well! Husband has no idea yet but I run the ranch; he teaches school. I am rambling. Call or email me. Maybe a few of you can work for slave wages?????? RE: Pam Is Crazy - Carey - 05-08-2008 I should have some time coming up (NO MORE SCHOOL - except that my sub cert. must have finally gotten back down the DOE line, 'cause I have one day scheduled!) Also, this is for all, but you right now... The ARC in Hilo, Laulima Hana, is having their Grand Opening of their "new & reusable" building materials sales on Sat. May 10 10am for new, used & such building materials (sounds much like the Habitat for Humanity store on the Kona side) Their quote is "Don't dump it, Donate it"... 230 Kekuanaoa RE: Pam Is Crazy - pslamont - 05-08-2008 Oh, I love the idea of that store! I went to Habitat for Humanity Restore in Kona last week. Interesting idea. they don't have much and it is not worth driving to Kona for but a store here and I will be cruising once a week! Wow. Potential Building laborers: I have a chance to buy trusses cheap wich would drive the size of the new cabin. Am getting information now. Will need some strong backs to lift them off the truck and later to get them onto the house structure. This is shaping up interestingly! Remember Country Joe and the Fish? "come on all you big strong men... Aunty Pam needs your help again" Okay it doesn't go exactly like that but the cough medicine the doctor gave me has codeine in it so I am feeling a little "loose" as I lay awake at 3 in the morning... I wouldn't post anything like "It won't be permitted" anywhere publicly. [] Aloha, John S. Just another day in P A R A D I S E !! RE: Pam Is Crazy - pslamont - 05-09-2008 Anyone available a couple hours Saturday the 10th in the morning to lift some lumber? Two people would be a BIG help. David Ninole Resident RE: Pam Is Crazy - pslamont - 05-09-2008 Not even there yet; just needed some manpower to lift them onto and off the truck to get them HERE... but good idea for when we are ready. You are always the wise one Dave.. Pam Just another day in P A R A D I S E !! RE: Pam Is Crazy - mella l - 05-10-2008 Here a friend used a back hoe and a D-6 to lift joists and roof sections onto a 3 car garage. Used heavy webbed strappings and lifted away. Hope you found your crew! Wish I were there, goes without saying. mella l RE: Pam Is Crazy - pslamont - 05-10-2008 Okay, Nate SC MAHALO!! Royal, MAHALO Trusses loaded into storage in the greenhouse.
