simplest solar hot water - pslamont - 05-12-2008
We did some simple solar hot water while in Thailand. Any existing container cut so that the surface area is large and depth is shallow (think box) with the top a layer of sealed clear glass or plexiglass or plastic. Paint the interior black, place the clear lid. Provide a faucet or hose drainage. Place on strong roof. Open hose for flow and hot (or at least warm) water.
We ran it into a second barrel, had a cold water source, mixed the hot and cold till we had a comfortable temperature and then ran the shower off the second barrel. Simple, cheap, using materials that were just laying around.
