Does anyone know who built the form poured house @ Kehena point with the big round windows?

RE: Cement building@Kehena point - leilaniguy - 05-26-2008

Daniel Bona. He has a website; www.bonadesign.com

Interesting... Bona design has the castle in Seaview in their gallery of designs.... really diverse...

RE: Cement building@Kehena point - Kelena - 05-26-2008

That castle in Seaview is one of the most site-inappropriate buildings I have ever seen in my entire life, on any continent, island, or in any principality. I don't care who lives in that damn thing....it was folly to conceive of it, folly to assist in the implementation of it, and a travesty to participate in the building of it.

If I were Bona, I would remove that from my site immediately. It is an abomination.

Glen,
But do you like the house?

When I first saw that house... I thought about how foolish it was to be built in that location.

Can anyone make out what it says on the sign in the front of it or know what it says? I see "Kehena" and then O.I.N.

Glen I totally agree, have been by that castle?/house! LOL But also have seen the overlook on the highway (in his gallery) the one with the tower and the circular cut outs and the glass wind breaks, beautiful.

When you are designing someone elses dream, well sometimes, you must go with it!

a hui hou and aloha,

Actually I think the "wedge" houses he designed in Seaview are worse than the castles. At least the castles are whimsical, like they are someone's childhood fantasy, while the wedges look like something from the Jersey shore. Wasted square footage, no relationship to the outside via lanais, and teeny tiny windows that mostly don't open. How are you going to catch the tradewinds like that?

The triangle and the house next to it are vacation rentals. There are interior photos at; http://oceanspiritvacationrental.com

Daniel designed it. Michael Lynch, a concrete contractor, who lives in HPP built it in 2000-2001. It has been on HGTV extreme vacation homes. Ray Keuning was the structral engineer who signed off on it.

You either love it or you hate it but isn't it awesome that here in Puna you can do what you want (within the bldg codes).

Daniel has done more conventional homes in Puna that aren't yet on his website that are nicely done.
