Fire Service - DickWilson - 06-04-2008

We will be building in Eden Roc in jun 09, as I understand things fire service is provided by a volunteer dept. As Eden Roc is a catchment area, I need to know if the fire dept siphons from your catchment or do they need a hose fitting installed onthe catchment? I feel certain it would be cheaper to ship one with our HHG than purchase on on the island. Any help would be really appreciated.[Smile]

It is a siphon hose or the heavy suction hose they would dip into a river on the mainland. Quite often it ruins the catchment liner if they need to do that. These are a few of the answers I got when I built. It would really be expensive to modify the liner and tank for a fire valve as they are special types from what I've been told.

BTW, Where are you moving from?

http://www.pacificgunite.com/included.htm Located in Mountainview does cement catchment. We probably won't go this route, however one of the accessories they offer is fire hose connection gadget.

Welcome DickWilson, there are several posters here from Eden Roc so ask all the questions you wish and good luck!

Thanks, its great to hear that there are posters from Eden Roc on the forum, makes it nice to be able to pick your brains before we pull the plug here.

With reference to the cemet catchment, We probably won't either, But I had considered installing a free-standing 6" siphon arrangement made from PVC to protect the catchment wall and attaching a fire hose quick connect on the outboard side.

the eden roc fire dept arrives with a tanker truck with water on board to help suppress the fire until the fire department gets there from keaau, approximately 12 miles away, i know a guy who uses the poly tanks and has them fire hose hookup ready

RE: Fire Service - DickWilson - 06-05-2008

Thats basicly what I want is to be fire hose ready, and I really would rather not have to rebuild a catchment along with any fire damage. Just getting lazy in my old age, I guess[Smile]

If your worried about it think about residential sprinklers

The devil is in the detail
