Someone told me yesterday they had heard the Home DePot was going to be closing? Anyone else heard anything along those lines?

OMG that would be awful. We rely on HD for so many things. What would be the reason for them closing? Doesn't make sense.

This could be why. I just sent an email off to the Big Wigs on the mainland asking if this is true.
...but dwindling construction and real estate levels may push it toward a slowdown in coming years....

This seems like one of those goofy rumors that pop up all the time. I know several people who work at Home Depot in Hilo. The employees recently got profit-sharing checks based on individual store performance and have consistently made sales targets. On top of that, they outsell the older, longer-established Kona Home Depot. I don't think this one is going away, although they are cutting back on the mainland.

Okay, that's good then. Like I said, it was just a rumor someone told me. I forgot to ask where they heard it from so maybe they were just thinking it might happen and not that it will.

Ugh, don't even get me started on Home Depot... I recognize the wonderful benefits of having them here and I hope that they can continue to stick around, but SERIOUSLY, I have never had as many ridiculous issues in a store as I have had with them over the past 3 months. One thing after another, it doesn't matter if I call or go in, deal with customer service or 'specialized department personnel', 9 times out of 10 they have told me what they think I want to hear and then washed their hands of it, leaving me to deal with the misinformation, wrong or incomplete orders and having to drive back and forth to fix the mistakes. With experiences like that, I have decided to go to other places around town rather than deal with the mind boggling frustration of dealing with a large percentage of their employees. Some (10%?)are fantastic, they will ask someone else if they don't know the answer, but far too many just tell you whatever they can think of to send you on your way. If they (Home Depot) want to make it through then perhaps they should get their people some training and incentive to give a rip. My two cents. Better to support local businesses anyway when we can, Go Doc Stanley!!!

Hmmm My visits to Home Depot have been fine... My first few trips to HPM were not good at all... we have spent about 10k at Home Depot over the last 6 months with out a problem.
now times have change some, I bet HPM has some time to talk to me... who knows I might go back someday.
