Termador + sand - StillHope - 08-21-2008
Yesterday just happened to talk to a pest control company owner. He didn't try to sell me anything and his business is in another state,though he is licensed in different states,Hawaii included.
Anyway,he said that the product named "termador" (sometimes referred to as "termidor") is safe and works the best.He also suggested a sand strip around the house -3 feet deep,2 feet wide.
That combination,according to him ,is the best to keep a house termite free for many years.
The product goes into the concrete slab under a house.
Anyone used it?
I would really appreciate your opinion.Thank you in advance.

nope. hope, john is right. we have used termidor got lots of sand over here in kailua. if the termites want to come, they'll come. the pest control company even drills through the concrete slab to inject more pesticide.

1. How long the termador generally last?
2.How long a house will last without it?

You might check into two products: Timbor and BoraCare. Seems like they'd be big sellers on Hawaii.

gosh, hope, i can't remember the warranty on termidor. this house was recently tented and i don't recall the product that they used. however, it is supposed to last 5 years. i also don't remember when the ground treatment was done. sorry, again. our other house has only been treated for ground termites and that was some time ago. we have also used setricon bait traps. not sure on the success of that.
supposedly when you build, the contractor can add a barrier around the piping/plumbing to help prevent the termites from entering that way. i've heard of the product, but don't know the name. and, i believe that one should ground treat before the foundation is poured. anyway, that's what i was told.
someone correct me if i'm wrong.

You can also consider simply not building with wood. There are other ways to deal with termite other than feeding them or wallowing in poison.

AAC is good. ICF is good, SIP is good. Steel is good. CMU is good. Wood is simply a bad value for the dollar. You generally start your maintenance and repair program with wood buildings a day or so after they are completed and continue for the rest of your life.
I am a master carpenter myself but came to the conclusion after close analysis that wood frame buildings are the least dollar value for the time and money. The Three Little Pigs had a lesson for us.
