foot valve in catchment tank - kimo wires - 10-10-2008 If you have a check valve on the intake pipe next to the pump motor, should you also have a foot valve on the end of the pipe in the catchment tank? or is it not necessary? RE: foot valve in catchment tank - Royall - 10-10-2008 I've got both.... necessary... I don't know. You might think of it as a back up! Royall What goes around comes around! RE: foot valve in catchment tank - JWFITZ - 10-10-2008 Sure, every time the pump cycles you save a couple pennies of power, not sucking air. RE: foot valve in catchment tank - David M - 10-10-2008 Check valves are a good thing. David Ninole Resident RE: foot valve in catchment tank - DanielP - 10-10-2008 A foot valve is a check valve and screen that is generally used when the pump is at a higher elevation than the intake point to stop a vacuum from building between the intake and the pump when the pump is not running. It will also prevent larger debris from entering the system. Dan RE: foot valve in catchment tank - kimo wires - 10-11-2008 It makes sense to have both. I'm putting in the foot valve with screen.
