Are you ?????????? to vote? - Rob Tucker - 08-07-2008

Are you registered to vote?

Puna has a number of faces to it's reputation. One is low voter turnout. The world is turning and moving in directions unpredictable.

In the recent past issues concerning life in Puna were often decided by a half dozen people you don't know and never heard of.

At the present several hundred are trying to change that formula. You could make it several hundred and one.....

This is an election year friends and neighbors,

Are you registered to vote?

Check this out...There is a voter registration form in your telephone book! It's a page in the beginning of the big yellow page book. It was right there between the recycling guide and the Hawaiian dicionary on page 87 (at least in the old book). All you have to do is mail it in at least 30 days prior to the election and they mail you back your polling place info etc. Now you can save gas and get to vote too!

You can even vote absentee. We do. I love it, don't even have to go to the polls, we are able to do it in the comfort of our home.

Yes.

Coming from Mexican patriarchal society, I take my right to vote very seriously.

I moved back to Puna in May. The first week of June I put in for a Voter Registration Change of Address.

Only this week did I finally get my new Yellow Voter's Confirmation and Registration card.

I was getting worried that they lost it or something.[^]

It took months to get our after we'd registered in October. I think it was February before they showed up in the mail.

aloha, Liz

I think those cards are just to help you know where to vote and what your district races are. The first time Bear and I showed up at the polls with cards dutifully in hand, the registrar smiled and said we didn't really need them to vote. I suggest calling the Registration Office to confirm your status.

Cheers,
Jerry

Aloha Liz and Jerry, thanks for responding. As an update, I was on the road all last week and just went through my mail. Happy to report that my registration confirmation came in the mail last Saturday. Can't wait to exercise my right to vote. Puna power! :-)
