A neighbor brought a lilikoi over...amazing fruit of the Gods...she strained and blended and added water and sugar and I'm in love with the taste. We got some lilikoi butter from a gal at the Makuu Market Sunday...if you have the chance to buy this...do. It is very, very delicious! I'm going to try to germinate some of the seeds...she said it grows on a vine in her friend's yard...anyone have any experience with lilikoi? (Oh while I'm at it...the guava grows all along the roads I walk in the morning...I'm putting together thought about making jam from them.)

Dear Carrie, we had a Lilikoi vine on the property when we moved in. We used the
strained fruit in white cake to flavor. We add to guava juice (we also strain). We have made light syrup to top ice cream,cake,haupia,and
puddings. We keep some in the freezer along with quava juice. The seeds do sprout well.
I have seeds now for the giant type. I hope they sprout. Have fun experimenting with
Island fruits.

In Honomu, the lilikoi (passion fruit) vine grew wild and fast. Havent had must luck down here in Kapoho with it.

And as far as passion-fruit plants themselves? Yikes! Depending on the species (there are several), the island, and the company one keeps, that can be as polarizing a topic as politics (...or coqui!)!
Are they noxious invasive threats to the environment?
Or simply a part of the plan?

a buddy of mine on molokai has a beautiful lilikoi or two that has grown to cover a sitting area that he made. its beautiful. the vines have grown up, along and over the top of a covered nook. the fruit grows with ease (he is though, on the dry side of the island) and makes for a beautiful, natural "wall." you might want to try something like that. and yes, lilikoi is absolutely delicious! the sweet/sour combination is dy-no-mite! my daughter loves them!

Just planted seeds for the red variety and
the jumbo variety.
Carrie, I have a extra lilikoi plant out in my yard. I could dig up and pot it for you. Maybe it will survive. You could Pick it up at the party.

There's a couple of people that sell the plants at Maku'u sometimes as well (last time I got some, the lady had plants near where you got the herb starts). Even if they don't have the plants that weekend, ask around and see if they can bring some for you the next week.

Wyatt - I'll take ya up on that! Mahalo! John...had a great time at the market...already have my list for next week. Funny when (I don't remember which Banana Boy we were talking to) ________ was telling us how to harvest our bananas...well today one of the trees (a smaller one) had a huge bunch not quite ready for primetime and the stalk broke under the weight of the bananas! We hung them up and I don't know at this point if they are gonna do anything at all but rot...so there they are hanging.
