I noticed that my mango tree this year has flowered big time after about 6 years of relatively negligable flowers and fruits. I live down on 5th street in HPP and had been wondering if my mango tree would ever produce fruit...but it looks like this year we are finely going to have a bumper crop. Anyone else having success with mangos this year?

The mangos here in mid-HPP (16-22) seem to be blooming more than the previous several years, too. We even have a very young tree blooming right now, a big surprise. I have been told (and read on line) that they like the somewhat drier than usual weather we have had this winter. Too much rain or too much wind apparently reduces pollination. Here's hoping for a bumper crop!

There is a crucial period with mangos between flowering and fruiting when it can all go bad. You can have lots of flowers, even get the beginnings of fruit and then if it rains too much they will all blast (fall off).
We planted a variety of mango that is supposed to be less prone to this. It is flowering now, for the first time, and a few have blasted. We shall hope for the best and see what happens.
We also took a graft from a tree in the neighborhood that produces fruit regularly but it is too young for any results.

Bumper crop isnt even a description for it. We had tons of blossoms, and now tons of baby mangoes from pea size to already about 2-3" big!!
I see bowls of fresh mango, then ....mango salsa, mango chutney, mango ice cream, mango pancakes, mango cheesecake, frozen mango for next winter, pickled mango,.......
Now if it can only stay dry awhile while the avos grow too, mangos will be sweet and avos delicious... and not watery!

Just this year my husband and i discovered the wonderous delicious mango....it is our favorite fruit now. I think I have spotted a wild mango tree that I am sure going to keep an eye on!!!!!
