Wild Pineapple Guavas... - Carolann R - 04-12-2007

Okay, I have to ask who knows this...there is a girl I work with who's husband was born here...says those yummy ripe, sweet pineapple guavas that I pick on my walks around Puni Mauka Loop ALL have worms. ALL of them !! Does anyone know anything about this? She said if you eat 'em while they are ripe and sweet - no doubts about it...they have tiny worms in 'em. I am so grossed out.

I think it's true. The "beer bugs" come from guava. Every ripe wild guava I ever picked was wormy. I don't eat them.

That's why the wild pigs love them. It's a full meal, meat with veggie! Smile

Hey, it's not so bad, I understand USDA allows 18 maggots per every 12 oz. can of tomato sauce, about 15 percent insect parts/dirt per pound cacao, etc. cooked = clean.

It's no big deal. Just avoid the wormy parts. Your Aku tuna almost always has worms too. Just cut that part out.

Yeah, you don't even want to know what the USDA allows in broccoli........
Just add a lot of melted cheese, and don't mind the little crunchy things..

I'll never forget when, as a child in Texas, a well-known flour mill got written up for exceeding the "allowable content of rat droppings" in the flour. My grandmother's comment was, "ALLOWABLE! Do you mean to tell me they allow any rat s**t at all in the flour?!?!"

Cheerfully and obliviously munching my oatmeal cookie,

Well, you know those shiny apples in the store? Many times that shine is shellac. And shellac is made with what do you ask? Why ground up beetle wings of course! Entirely edible, they probably even add some protein to your diet.
