hydroponics - pslamont - 04-21-2007 I have been doing a little experimenting though certainly not agressively. However, today I put the non-circulating hydroponic tomatoes into place with the wire fencing for them to climb in the greenhouse and am going to see how they do. The heavy rain this week has slowed us down but we are preparing an area for a more formal 24 x 60 foot greenhouse and will go agressively into tomato, lettuce and cucumber. Also, we sprayed the fruit orchard for aphids that attacked this past month. After three spraying (oil soap) the aphids appear to have fled. Today my gardner spent half a day wiping each leaf of the citrus to remove the black "honey" left behind. I believe we saved our c itrus crop, small as it will be on these young trees, for the season with little damage. We have green beans back in the ground and are looking forward to a good harvest this season. Every couple weeks I start another 60 to 80 plants to keep a rotation going. I start them in the greenhouse window in my kitchen and then transplant them when they are over 3 or 4 inches tall. That way the chickens don't pluck the new buds thinking they are juicy worms! Oh, all this farm life stuff.. it is just so fun. Gosh, I just love this forum. Thank you Rob and especially NANCY!! Anyone else have any gardening ideas for me up here at 2500 ft???
