anyone try growing some of the exotic fruits like. - emorata - 05-02-2007 rambutan, mangosteen, apple custard or cherimoya, sapote and a host of other exotics in the puna district? I was wondering how adaptive they are to our client - i do see these occasionally being sold at the farmers markets in hilo.... would like to try these, but not sure how successful they can be to fruiting. noel RE: anyone try growing some of the exotic fruits like. - Iju - 05-02-2007 One of my neighbor has so many tropical fruit trees like Jackfruit, sapodilla, longan, santol, Mamey sapote, star apple, etc. just to name a few. And they're loaded with fruits. We live in HPP on 8th Ave. I'm in the process of planting fruit trees myself. Just for the past two weeks, I have planted 18 grafted fruit trees so far. They are rambutan, longan, jackfruit, atemoya, mango, sapodilla, pummelo, tangarines, orange and lime. I don't know how mine would do but am hoping for some fruits in a few years. RE: anyone try growing some of the exotic fruits like. - canhle - 05-03-2007 Hi Iju, good to hear from you again. So you are back on the island for good? Where did you get the tropical fruit to plant from? canhle RE: anyone try growing some of the exotic fruits like. - Iju - 05-03-2007 quote: Hi Canhle, Yes, I am back to the island for good and can't be happier. I got most of my fruit trees from Aloha Farms in HA, two atemoyas and a jackfruit from Poki Farm and a mangostein seedling from Josie. Both sells their plants at Maku'u Farmers Market. I also bought some tangarines from Rozette in HPP. I am looking forward to going to the annual plant sale tomorrow at Plant It Hawaii.
