Anyone growing Wing Beans? - Jean H - 06-03-2007

A few years ago I bought some Wingbeans at the Hilo farmers market. I used them in salads and stir fried them. They were great!
I loved the idea of introducing a new veggie to my family, so I found seeds online and tried to grow them in the northern part of Florida, with only a vine to show for it.
No one I talked to ever heard of them and finally they are in an article in this months "MOTHER EARTH NEWS" with good instructions on how to grow them.
If anyone likes to try something different, you will love these beans, They make a nice crunchy addition to a salad. Northern Florida gets down to freezing some days in winter, so I figure they should grow well up in Fern Forest where I plan to move one day.

After much looking I managed to get some wing bean seeds at a seed exchange. They seem to be pretty easy to grow but I have not yet mastered them.

I've tried various locations and support systems. No bumper crops yet.

It is important to pick them before they get to big.
