Sprouting edible ginger - JerryCarr - 06-10-2007 I have prepared a new partially shaded bed for growing edible ginger, but I am not entirely sure about the planting method. I have bought a clump of root at Makuu that I was assured had not been treated in any way to prevent sprouting. I would like to break the clump into smaller pieces with eyes to scatter through the bed, thus getting a head start on spreading. Question: When I break or cut the pieces, should I let the cuts dry before planting or just go ahead and plant them? Any suggestions? Cheers, Jerry RE: Sprouting edible ginger - emorata - 06-11-2007 i grow the non-edible versions and they are hardy, no real preparations getting them into the ground really...you might want to check if this type of ginger spreads more readily like the other types so you might want to contain them if they tend to run easily from an area that you have prepared. noel |
