Lemon Grass - Kapohocat - 07-02-2008
Jerry & markie brought a big pot of lemon grass to share and there is plenty left if any one needs some!
In the mean time, how do I take care of this? I am doing some internet searching but any tips?

Lemon grass is easy to grow. It likes full sun and good drainage with little in the way of fertilizer. It literally grows like clumping grass, and we have to keep ours somewhat confined to keep it from spreading too much.

We have a clump that we have had, in the same pot (about like yours) for 3 years.... given barely any care, had a cat that really like to chew on it & kept is "mowed" for a year... so you can cut it down or not, it has dried out a couple of times (my bad!) & sprung back.... seems to be a very sturdy & nummy plant
Tip I learned from the clumps orginal owner, use the woodier blades as a skewer for kabobs, the lemongrass is then infused in the meat & veggies... nummmy....

We too don't take care of ours at all, and it thrives. I'd put it in the ground if you can.

We have grown it successfully in California. The best tip I can give is water it often until it gets some roots down, and then ignore it and it will grow like a weed.

There is also a similar grass which is citronella scented. Bugs aren't fond of it and it is nice to grow around areas you want to be outside although it isn't as nice for cooking and food.
