Acai Palm information? - Rumi in Hawaii - 08-15-2008 Has anyone tried (or checked on) growing acai berries in Hawaii? Apparently they are the newest "it" thing for antioxidants, and apparently they are grown in the Amazon rain forest.....gee, maybe our rain forest would work? I just checked ebay for ordering some seeds (suggested by my friend in Texas) - have no idea if this is the same place she got them, but my friend did buy some seeds from ebay and she said they germinated, but didn't thrive for her. I have no idea if this is a plant that could be imported into Hawaii for trial? Any thoughts? Here's the ad on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/Acai-Palm-Tree-10-Seeds-BEST-BERRY-PRODUCER-BEAUTIFUL_W0QQitemZ180276981324QQihZ008QQcategoryZ42353QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Katie in Eden Roc Wherever you go, there you are. RE: Acai Palm information? - Carey - 08-15-2008 Katie, not sure on the acai palm (& whether or not they can be shipped by the e-bay grower to Hawaii... legally), you may want to contact someone at the Hawaii Island Palm Society: http://www.palms.org/chapters%5Chawaii.cfm (not sure if this is a current info page... seems to be out of date on the events...) RE: Acai Palm information? - Rumi in Hawaii - 08-15-2008 Carey, thanks for that information - I'll give them a call (couldn't get the website to connect to an email to reach them, but I'll try calling). See you soon! Katie in Eden Roc Wherever you go, there you are. |
