Building Materials for Built-In Sectional - Tolleys - 10-31-2008

I need a source for sofa cushions and backs.

We plan to make a built-in sectional, but I have not found a good source for the seat cushions and backs. We considered twin mattress for the seats, but they are too wide. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. [Smile]

There is a company called This End Up which would sell cushions separately. You would have to have them shipped in though.....

The best bet locally is to find an old sofa with good cushions and recover them to your taste.

Check with both the Discount Fabric Warehouse on Kanoelenua & Thompsons Upholstering (think the name changed) on Hualani

Thompsons made our Cal King bed (custom foam densities) 3 years ago, but were looking to retire, seem to remember they had a new name last time we looked, but same location...

Which island? Oahu has several sources for foam, however the rest of us usually make do with futon foam redesigned to fit.

Thompsons is (was???) in Hilo..... They had a huge stock of different foam densities & thicknesses in their workshop (pretty much floor to ceiling) & could order anything special, but had instock all that we needed...

Prices are reflective of what is available here in Hawaii and if you want quality you are going to have to pay.

Saying that... Dragon Mama has a great selection of stuff in downtown Hilo.

We got a Futon cover from the place.

Carey,
Looks like it is Thompsons D & J Upholstering at 711 Hualani St
Hilo, HI 96720. I will check it out next week.

Hotzcatz,
I am on the Big Island in HPP.

Rob,
I checked out your website suggestion, interesting. Your suggestion motivated me to do more internet searching. I found another interesting site that will do custom sizes. Shipping (as always) is pretty steep.

Thanks to all for the advice... [Smile]

Since shipping cost is often determined by volume, you might want to shop online for your cushion covers, then obtain foam and batting locally. One suggestion would be to cut an old foam mattress pad into cushion sized pieces, wrap it with polyurethane or other soft batting, and use that for the cushion filling.
