TIME Magazine on the ConCon ballot initiative - Rob Tucker - 10-31-2008

A rather interesting read on the current ConCon ballot question....

The thing that I hate about the vote on the Con Con... is that a "Blank" vote automatically goes down as a blank vote.

I hate ballots that work that way.

Many people who may not necessarily understand the ballot or the issue may want to choose to vote Yes on something like this, but are unsure, and therefore they leave the ballot blank... which in turn gets put against their real feeling of the issue due to a misunderstanding.

Thanks Rob, for posting the link to the Times article. It was with great interest that I read the following:

A ConCon could well allow Hawaii's Republican governor, Linda Lingle, to create local school districts by breaking up the nation's only state-wide, centralized public educational system.

The Hawaiian school system is in desperate need of reform. Creating local school districts could be a big first step. If there is any possibility for this to happen, then I, for one, will be voting in favor of a constitutional convention.

Given the amount of money ($1.2 million) last report, spent by the special interests "opposed" is almost enough reason to vote YES without further investigation.

David, I voted "yes" on Con-Con because all the "usual suspects" have lined up with their special interest money to oppose it. Of course, they are telling everyone that a Con-Con will open the door to special interests. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

Cheers,
