Emergency Updates - rbakker - 11-12-2008
An article in the HTH today tells you how to inform the county of your cell phone and email address if you want to be notified in case of an emergency. It seems home phone numbers on Hawaii aren't required because they will be calling listed numbers automatically.
So for everyone who prefers to get their messages by email, or on their cell, or at an off-island number:

They will be doing emergency updates by geographical location, nothing island-wide.

Thanks for adding the link. My husband saw the article and forwarded it to me, but having the link was very helpfull. We are using cell phones as our only phones and e-mail notification is helpful too.

While in Volcano Sept-Oct there was a power outage. No electricity and therefore my cell phone did not work! It was important to me as I needed a early wake up call for an early plane flight. So unless your cell company has and uses the backup generator, well no cell phone!
Just something to keep in mind.

WOW... I never thought of that. How do you find out about this? I won't be using it for an alarm unless we are traveling and even then I do have a battery travel alarm clock. Is your carrier located in Volcano or did it simply affect the relays from the towers?
What carrier do you have? We have AT&T.
