water chem-tainers - lquade - 11-24-2008

hi! was wondering if anyone uses chem-tainers here for their household water? we have always had ferrocement and i am wondering if there is any chemical taste to the water, or if anyone has had any problems with them or thoughts regarding life expectancy of the plastic. thanks!

We have had a chemtainer tank for about 3 years, like it. It is easy to keep sealed up. I think there was a bit of taste the first time but after it flushed a few times it was fine.

I believe David in Ninole uses a combination of four of them for his needs.

Just went to chemtainers website, boy, they sure have went up in price. The tank I bought has went up 700 dollars.

Yep, that would be me. Have a 3K tank in service at our shed for over 3 years and 4 4K tanks ganged to serve the big house for over a year.
Highly recommend. Don't notice any taste and actually had another catchment owner (traditional metal w/liner tank) remark how good our water tastes. I do use my version of 1st flush and filter water before it reaches the tanks as well as the more common after tank filtration. I'm not an advocate of bottled water mania, nor do I want some sort of dual source.

david, that leads me to another question! we have had our current 4K ferro tank for about 25 years and never ran out of water. but people keep telling me you HAVE to have 10K gallon to get homeowners and i am "grandfathered" in. did you have any prob getting homeowner insurance with the 4K tank??? thanks! (this new tank is for a different property)

Actually, we got insurance on the "shed" a only the 3k and water wasn't an issue. This was an HPIA policy. I'm waiting to get the pool finished (39k gal) and will try my old insurer, USAA. I want to rig a hydrant connection to the pool. Still need to research how.
