Inaugural Ball in Pahoa - frankiestapleton - 11-24-2008 Tickets are now on sale for the Obama Inaugural Ball at Pahoa's Akebono Theater on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 20. For those who can't make it to the Washington D.C. balls or the one in Honolulu, the Pahoa ball is planned for 6-10 p.m. The commemorative tickets --featuring the Ken Charon art showing Obama catching a wave --are $15 and will be sold at the Kinoole Street Farmers Market in Hilo on Saturdays, the Makuu Market on Sundays, and at CD Wizard in Hilo daily. People can also call Roxanne at 965-8002 or Frankie at 965-8945 to order tickets as well as T-shirts celebrating the inauguration of Hawaii's favorite son. Everyone is invited to join the festivities featuring the musical talents of Kaliko Guyz, Fields of Fire, Dave Seawater & Friends, Jasmine Miranda Crowe, the Horny Toads, and IBIS. Jasper Moore, recent mayoral candidate, will serve as our master of ceremonies. Dress is Puna chic (or as Honolulu labeled it, "island elegant") or, if you're so inclined, dress up as your favorite American historical figure. Organizers are also planning on a Webcast feed from the East Coast as the festivities in D.C. will still be going on in the early hours of our celebration. Complimentary pupus will be prepared by M.J. Svoboda and Luquin's will man the no-host cash bar. Akebono Theater recently received a major refurbishing so the Inaugural Ball will put the test to the beautiful new hardwood dance floor. So, please mark your calendars for this fun event, which is a fundraiser for lower Puna Democrats. But you don't have to be a Democrat to celebrate the inauguration of a U.S. President! I've been given the go-ahead to start publicizing the 4th District Democrats' Obama Inaugural Ball. Tickets have been printed and are now available for $15. Only 380 tickets will be sold to this Puna Democratic fundraiser that will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Pahoa's Akebono Theater. Tickets will be sold at CD Wizard in Hilo and at the Makuu Farmers Market on Sundays AFTER Christmas. Those wanting tickets before Christmas can call Frankie at 965-8945 or Roxanne at 965-8002. The celebration of Barack Obama's elevation to the U.S. presidency will include such bands as Kaliko Guyz, The Horny Toads, Ibis, Fields of Fire, Jasmine Miranda Crowe and Dave Seawater, who is donating his producing skills and equipment to the night's entertainment. Organizers are trying to arrange a webcast from Inaugural Balls underway in Washington D.C. in the 6-8 p.m. Pahoa timeframe (11 p.m.- 1 a.m. East Coast time) but those plans have not yet been finalized. The theater will have a cash bar by Luquins and complimentary pupus provided by the Puna Democrats. Partygoers are encouraged to dress in costume as their favorite American historical person as there will be a costume contest but costumes are not mandatory. Dress will be "Puna chic" (chic as in "sheek") or, as the Honolulu crowd labeled it, "island elegant." Artist Ken Charon has designed a great poster for the Ball which includes his portrait of Obama. A very limited number of posters (to be signed by the President-elect during his Christmas break in Hawaii) will be available for auction at the Inaugural Ball and T-shirts featuring the poster design will be sold at the Democratic Party fundraiser as well. We're all looking forward to a fun, joyous celebration...hope to see you there! RE: Inaugural Ball in Pahoa - Barbara - 01-04-2009 Frankie, you are a treasure! RE: Inaugural Ball in Pahoa - james weatherford - 01-05-2009 We got our tickets yesterday at Makuu. Yahoo! a night on the town! -- we really don't get off the farm much For me, what is most unique about President-elect Barack Obama? He will be the first President in my life time who is younger than me! James Weatherford, Ph.D. 15-1888 Hialoa Hawaiian Paradise Park RE: Inaugural Ball in Pahoa - Timkona - 01-18-2009 I'll be attending the party at Senor Billy's in S Kona. I'm stoked about the whole party being full of people who support the notion of income redistribution. They can buy my beers all night to show their support for their candidates campaign promises. Show support. Put YOUR money where his mouth is. Have you questioned any of your beliefs, or changed your mind about anything lately? |
