They're Back................... - Kahunascott - 11-27-2008 We just started the 5th harvest from the same tomato plants. We bought them at Wal-marts for $1.50 each about 6” in height. These are the large tomatoes the Roma’s only went 4 times. We have planted the same ones again cuz’ I think this is it with the originals. No bugs or split skin just good fruit. We gotta know your set up. RE: They're Back................... - Kahunascott - 11-28-2008 In the ground Peppekio soil with pro mix added. Good fertilizer from garden exchange and gypsum. I don't get it I usta' spray for bugs but don't any more. I do get that leaf fungus but I just pick them off the affected leaves and hope that new ones grow faster. Right now we have a dozen green ones larger then golf balls. We have harvested the first of our yellow pear shaped, cherry sized tomatoes. They were soooo sweet. I just LOVE this living off the land stuff. It makes me think of Victory gardens... if we all just do a little it sure goes a long way! This Punweb community is just so cool. We are able to share so many things and ideas. Makes me happy to be a part of it for sure. We have missed you ad Jane. Hope to see you soon. CA, I am wondering when the best time to plant tomatoes and other "summer crops"? I understand that the seasons are far more subtle in our new home and that some things are less "annuals" in that temperate climate. I bought a couple of tomato plants at True Value and planted them before we headed back to the mainland to pack up. When we get there in January, it will be interesting to see how they have grown. It was basically an experiment. Our house is in Hilo, so we get plenty of water. I am going to put in a few raised beds and get things growing.
