I need a used Trailer - tmyc - 12-15-2008
I've just arrived and need to know if anyone has a used trailer for sale. I'll be building soon and need a trailer. I'm getting a trailer hitch put on the car Tuesday and Going to Troys on the Kona side on Wednesday to look at trailers. Home depot has one for $600 but it doesn't have sides nor does it have holes to place 2x4's to make sides. Just thought someone would have a used one that they could sell. Its got to have some sides and big enough to carry some plywood etc. Reliable of course. [8D]

Since you're going to Kona anyway, check out CostCo. I seem to remember them having some trailers on one of my visits.

The Costco trailer is the Snobear, Home Depot (Hilo & Kona) & Lowes (Kona) both have had the same Snobear the last couple of years (it is the black trailer with metal sides & tube rail tops that you see a lot in the Home Depot Parking lot) You may want to check if they are just out of stock at Home Depot & will be getting some in soon...
We looked at Troys 3 years ago & the base price of the trailers got us to Costco & the Snobear (at that time neither HD nor Lowes carried trailers) Troys trailer are much heavier & much more well built, but we have a wimpy car that needed a lighter trailer so that we could actually haul something (most of Troys trailers are over 800 #, which meant we could safety haul styrofoam & the like (our max recommended towing -type I hitch- is 1,000#)
If Home Depot is just temporarily out of stock & you need to borrow a trailer, we lend ours out... just drop a note or call...
Oh, if you are looking for a covered utility trailer, saw one in Waimea on my way to Kona Sunday... didn't check on the price or the weight.... but that is another potential....

Troys is pricey; no doubt about that. We found more choices at Lowes than Costco or Home Depot and went that route...

Troy is a good guy. He kept my trailer for me a couple months no problem before I took it to the $100/ month self storage place. Before I bought my property.

You can buy the stake pocket brakets to bolt onto the trailer so that you can build sides on trailers that don't come with them built in. I bought some from Northern Tools several (15?) years ago.

Thanks... keep adding replies. I got the hitch put on at my dealership Nissan in Hilo. When I asked them to show me where the plug was for the trailer they looked at me dumbfounded. Well of course I was dumbfounded at their stupidity. I needed a trailer hitch, Don't you think they realized I needed the wiring harness Too? Now I have to wait for the harness to be ordered. I put off my trip to Kona until I get the harness. I think I'm just gonna pay for it and take to Hawaii Campers to have them put it on for me. I was already Price Gouged for the part and $120 labor charge at Kaimaaina Nissan. Lesson Learned. I'm from Detroit so all of this is a gimme back home... need a hitch, yes and I need the electrical plug tooooo... dah I don't have to ask there. Please your eyes open for me. I'm sure the harness won't be in too soon.

I asked at the Hilo Home Depot (as we were loading up some doors) & asked about the Snobears... they have been backordered & should be in "a week or two..." so they may be in by the time you have the lighting harness

tmyc, you do realize this is a small island and the folks who put on your trailer hitch are either reading this or have neighbors who read this? I'm sure not that many Nissons have had trailer hitches put on lately so they will know which car it was. Next time you take it in for service, they might very well remember your online writings.

perhaps if Nissan were forthright with the consumer in the first place, this wouldn't be necessary!!!
