Nah... Road Rage isn't near the problem here on this Island as it is on Oahu. In fact, I find it hard to believe anyone could get outraged on this island. So you have the bottlenecks and the prime traffic hours, but it's not worth road rage! Trust me folks... it's just not that bad here.
There was a road rage incident in front of my place on Oahu where the driver took out a parked car and a telephone pole.

How much road rage is too much?
Any.
As it happens, I was nearly run off the Keaau Bypass a few years ago by one car chasing another and trying to run that car off the road. Road rage happens here.
In honesty, when I was driving on Oahu a few years ago, people were very friendly to let others into traffic -- shakas all around.
Not so on the roads here, e.g., Keaau bypass bottleneck.

The Bear and I saw the same thing as James in the same location about two weeks ago. It was actually scary as they nearly hit several cars trying to get at and away from each other. Bad business, that.

I TRY to show some aloha in the bottleneck, and offer to let other drivers into the main lane. But they rarely take the opportunity. They have to zoom up to the end of the lane, and squeeze in. This makes traffic jams worse, and I tend not to let these folks in. They had their chance.

It's very unnerving that so many drivers here don't know how to use "merge" lanes. I often see people stopped instead of accelerating to the speed of traffic and merging. Then there are those dolts that tighten up so that folks can't merge.
There's more to it than Aloha; a little knoweledge and training go a long way. I did my time on the LA Freeway and I can tell you it's not fun, but urban commuters know they're in the same boat and mostly work with each other. (Merge and let merge)
cwoods demonstrates a common misconception at the bottleneck; There isn't a "main" lane. There are two lanes and they should merge alternately where it narrows to one. If one lane is empty, of course cars are goin to be passing, but the proper place to merge is at the end.
There hasn't been multi-lane roads on the Big Island that long, which explains the lack of savvy. I don't know if driving instructors even know what's going on. My attitude ; Relax, the scenery's much better than in LA.
