Inter-Island Airfares lower (Except for Hilo) - macuu222 - 01-20-2009
It looks like Hilo has been left out of the loop this time with current competition heating up between Hawaiian, Go Airlines and Mokulele Airline. Currently airfares between Kona and Honolulu and Lihue and Honolulu are about $37.00. It's $65.00 from Hilo. And starting Febuary 1...it gets even lower and Maui is added... $27.00 one way fares to Honolulu Oahu, Kahalui Maui,Lihue Kauai and Kona Hawaii.
My wife and I fly to Honolulu from Hilo quite often to visit family ...but I think come February we will drive to Kona and fly out and save over $100.00 a trip!

It's not just Interisland - since Kona has mainland flights we saved quite a bit by skipping the Honolulu leg and flying straight to SFO from Kona. The car rental fee of $50 was more than paid for.
Unfortunately by doing so we're marginalizing poor Hilo airport even more.

About Kona flights to mainland ...(sorry -off the topic)-LAX-Koa is twice the price of any other Airlines.Too many rich people taking the flight?
