suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - kimo wires - 04-05-2009 There was a powder blue station wagon parked in my drive yesterday. I heard them pull in (backed in)when they spotted me heading up the drive toward them they drove off. They couldn't have been just turning around because they had turned off the motor and were just sitting there. I didn't see their faces. Anyone know this vehicle? Probably a old Ford. Light powder blue paint. Unusual color. One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected. RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - PaulW - 04-05-2009 Thanks for the warning. Always try to get a licence plate number, keep a pair of binoculars handy if need be. RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - mdd7000 - 04-06-2009 Just walk outside carrying a shotgun and shout out a hearty, "Aloha, can I help you?". RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - gtill - 04-06-2009 In this state you don't even be seen outside with a shotgun or any gun, especially in a threatening manner (meaning not hunting in an authorized location). You could use a weapon in self defense inside your house)if you can't escape, the entire burden will be on you. The state takes good care of it's criminals. RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - rainfire - 04-06-2009 gtill, your comment of holding a shotgun, especially in a "threatening manner" is humorous as I am trying to envision how one could view the sight of a shotgun in a "non threatening manner". Oh and about your comment of this state taking good care of it's criminals, lets me now know you must have just moved here. It has been published in the newspaper that our police department solves less than 10% of the crimes reported. Maybe you like these odds, but I myself prefer the ultimate deterrant. RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - gtill - 04-10-2009 Unloaded and in a case is non threatening, uncased on your porch is threatening if he hasen't fired a round through you wall. By "take good care" of, I mean coddle. RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - oink - 04-10-2009 quote: A break open would be carried empty, broken and cradled or shouldered. A pump, bolt or semiauto would be carried with a sling, slung over the shoulder or if no sling, shouldered with a locked open chamber. A pump, bolt or semiauto can also be cradled locked open in a nonthreatening manner. If hunting and approached by a game officer, it is best or at least courteous to assume one of those methods of carry. Any of those methods telegraph "no threat intended". If you are one of those folks just plain skeered by any sight of any gun, I can't help you. Pua`a S. FL Big Islander to be. RE: suspicious vehicle yesterday in orchidland - John S. Rabi - 04-10-2009 quote:In the country where I grew up it was recommended that you shot twice, once at the intruder and once in the air, but no recommended order was implied. One of the shots, meaning the second shot, would be considered as a warning shot. [ ![]() Aloha, John S. Why bother? If someone wants in your house, why make them break the door or a window to get in? There is no one around to hear it anyway. |
