Turbotax or a professional - rizi - 03-12-2009 Just wondering how many people use Turbotax vs a professional. Haven't done my own taxes since before we had kids and lived in california(didn't itemize then). I'm also wondering if turbotax allows to do taxes in different states. RE: Turbotax or a professional - Hotzcatz - 03-12-2009 We do both. After running it through Quicken and TurboTax we send it to our accountant who generally manages to save us more than TurboTax by itself. Kurt Wilson RE: Turbotax or a professional - Devany - 03-12-2009 We do both too. Because we have income in three states, it gets really complicated. We need help in each state. I have done it for three years and he always beat my calculations, so I don't even bother anymore. He has been doing my taxes for 20 years and I wouldn't waste my money on any tax software. A tax pro is worth every penny. Aloha, John S. Rabi, GM,ARB,BFT,CM,CBR,FHS,PB,RB 808.989.1314 http://www.JohnRabi.com Typically Tropical Properties "The Next Level of Service!" She always finds more than the accountant but we have him sign off on it just for IRS audit reasons (been there). Wife is MBA and former bookkeeper which probably explains why she knows her stuff. She does it without software and ours is fairly complicated which makes Gietner all that much more scarey. Pua`a S. FL Big Islander to be. RE: Turbotax or a professional - EightFingers - 03-13-2009 We do our own taxes. too complicated for a canned tax program. I created an excel spreadsheet to prepare us for our taxes which makes things a LOT easier. The trick is to keep GOOD records and keep them ORGANIZED. RE: Turbotax or a professional - Kahunascott - 03-13-2009 Turbo Tax works fine for Jayne and I, we really don't have any deductions. So 20 minutes of my time and $28 for the program and wham almost $1000 bucks back from the IRS in 10 days.[8D] "Many dreams come true and some have silver linings, I look for my dreams and a pocket full of gold" Led Zeppelin RE: Turbotax or a professional - Fishboy - 03-13-2009 TurboTax works fine for us too. We don't have the complicated business or multi-state tax issues, just one state and two jobs. I've used the software for the past three years and feel it does a very good job of walking me through the potential deductions. I used a professional for the two years before TurboTax, and it cost me $250 for the privilege. I got the software from Costco this year for $36 and I don't see the professional doing a better job. It is toward the end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKVxGlkPRlo |
