We need a few traffic lights on Hwy 130 - Lee G - 07-19-2006

Nobody wants them but they are desperately needed for safety reasons. Trying to make a left hand turn out of HPP is like playing Russian roulette and everyday there is a accident on Ainaloa Blvd and 130.

What about overpasses? Lets fully embrace our California roots here in Puna!

(JUST KIDDING EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!)

A more aloha suggestion, why dont we all slllllllooooooowwwww down and look both ways. Is there really anything in Hilo that is worth doing 65-75 Mph for?

Lee and I both leave out of Ainaloa all the time and the way its set up you have to be watching too many ways to get out onto 130. The part that I think causes trouble is when you are turning left and have to yeild to those coming from the right into Ainaloa. I have forgotten several times to recheck the yeild thing and could have caused an accident.

The main problem at Ainaloa/130 is there are 2 lanes of traffic going East, one of them is turning right into the sub-division from the Hilo side and totally blocks the other lane from your view and more than once I have almost turned left into a car that was invisible from my view by a car turning right into the sub division. Yes, slow down everybody but that still doesn't fix the problem it's the volume of traffic and only getting worse.

I agree, Lee. That's a harrowing intersection. We all know we should drive slower, but unless it's regulated or enforced people just won't do it. Lee, whats that really fun hilly road on the way to your house that everyone speeds on and if you wanna come out of your street, you can't see over the hill so...well, could be hazardous? Isn't that Ainaloa?

I agree that Ainaloa is a bad intersection, but IMHO the worst is the turn into Hawaiian Beaches and Shores. I see accidents there all the time. In fact, a Realtor in our office had her car totalled there just a month ago (thankfully, she is fine).

So does anyone know what it takes to get a stop sign committed and planted? What is the process perhaps it could be a joint effort to help neighbors! Mella

I know here you have to petition for it...like the speed bumps on our neigboring streets.

I think the major issue is that everyone use 130 as a highway so you are trying to enter and exit side streets into a highway!

We tried to take the "back way" out but it was like driving in the Outback! LOL! That little Jeep came in handy for sure!
