Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - Rob Tucker - 05-14-2009 I invite everyone to project themselves to Puna in 2020 and 2050 and tell us what you see. Punaweb moderator RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - JWFITZ - 05-14-2009 I'd love the discussion. Does it include only Puna or non-Puna events? I can't discuss it if it's only in the context of Puna. There's a whole world out there and it's going to affect Puna. If we're up to that conversation, and interested in it, and can keep it credible and civil, wonderful. I mean really. Elsewise. . .If I can't talke about why Ms. Clinton is in Indonesia, well, we'll not get anywhere. RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - Rob Tucker - 05-14-2009 On your site you can discuss the future of Istanbul if you like. Here we will discuss the future of Puna. Punaweb moderator RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - Blakeyboy1 - 05-14-2009 You clever little bitch ;-) In 2020 I will live in a HPP with paved roads. Population will be continuing to grow and subdivisions are filling. The economy has been good. Village centers are happening as per the Puna plan although are behind schedule and not all have been successful. Roadways are jammed and everyone is debating (still) PMAR. In 2050 I'll be ancient if still alive (but I'll still look good lol). Puna will still be a secret to the world at large but will be the preferred place for people to live. Residential prices will have caught up with and in some cases surpassed the rest of Hawaii. Smart urban planning and forward thinking green minded people as well as the unique position of being last to urbanize will allow Puna to avoid mistakes made on the other islands in more rapidly developed areas. MAYBE Puna will have some real infrastructure. What can I say I am a dreamer. -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - JWFITZ - 05-14-2009 Ok, fine, and I respect that. If you'd like to discuss the future of Puna in a global context, we can discuss it there. I invite it. It's important. I find the discussion completely nonsensical otherwise. The Big Island for 500 years has been the crossroads of the whole Pacific Rim, and there's a lot going on out there worth taking a look at. If I'm hamstrung by a myopic local focus, well, I don't know what to say, and I doubt I've much to offer. I will say, however, that my forum is open and unmoderated to all comers and perspectives. I'll hold to only two rules, the same my parents had for me as a Mennonite child: My mom didn't want me to see anything that was "racy" and my dad didn't want me to watch stuff that was "stupid." Elsewise, OK. Surprising how that shut down most everything. RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - John S. Rabi - 05-14-2009 Hawaii always will have the drawing power and since Puna is the the only remaining affordable area in Hawaii, its population will skyrocket. The property prices still will remain below the prices of all of the other parts of Hawaii because of the lack of infrastructure. (No, that will not change much as long as the mentality of the politicians and NIMBYs will remain the same.) Pahoa will become the second Hilo and the area residents will not have to go to Hilo for everything as they do now. Aloha, John S. RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - JWFITZ - 05-14-2009 Hi John, actually, I agree. So what will be the demographics and ideology of this group, and how will that affect Puna? RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - PaulW - 05-15-2009 In 2020 things won't be that much different from today. The population will be up 20% or so, and they'll still be trying to get an alternative route built. In 2050, which is as far away from today as 1970, I think Puna will be mostly retirees and rich middle-aged people, with the rest pushed to the fringes or beyond Volcano (eg HOVE). The road will have been built but the residents will be trying to stop any more development. More stores in Pahoa, and more people telecommuting. People will look back at 2010 and not believe how low the property prices were. IMHO! RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - Blakeyboy1 - 05-15-2009 I think it is interesting that now one has mentioned Pele... of course lave flows are hard to predict. -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: Puna Futurama 2020 & 2050 - EightFingers - 05-15-2009 Hawaii will be Chinese..... U.S. will trade it to China to settle it's debt. |
