Pole House Experiences - Blakeyboy1 - 04-07-2009

Aloha Good People of PunaWeb!

I am looking for some information on constructing pole homes. I did some searches on here and read some discussion on pole houses and I have been through the contractors from heaven and contractors from hell topics but I have not found anything specifically related to peoples experiences building one of these bad boys. Does anyone here have some experience with this that they would share? Does anyone know of any contractors that have the equipment to raise and set the poles and put these things together?

Me and Lynn are looking at this option in lower HPP and a friend of our is as well. We'd be so grateful to hear from you guys on this subject!

Hi Jane - Yes I have been there and even purchased a planning set of the plan we liked. It all has me very excited about the prospect. ;-)

Aloha Blake,

Use the Punaweb search function for "pole houses" and I think you will find an old thread on local experience in this type of construction. I have stayed in one for a week in the UK, but have never visited one here.

Cheers,
Jerry

We have a fellow in our neighborhood building one. He's just one guy, not even a particularly husky or strong fellow. He built a tripod hoist and set the poles using that with a block and tackle and his car, I think. He's got a couple rafters left and then he will start on roof decking. He's fitting the thing together really well.

Oh very interesting and how very creative and self reliant! That is just awesome.

If you are along the coast, he might not mind if you dropped by to see his creation. We've all started calling it "pole henge" since it is very monolithic looking and seems someplace druids would hang out. At least until he gets the roof decking on. I can ask him next time I see him if he would mind, but he really likes folks to be interested in his construction project so I don't think he would mind.

I won't be back there until August but would love to see what he has created.

RE: Pole House Experiences - MarkP - 04-09-2009

Is the building permitted?

RE: Pole House Experiences - Hotzcatz - 04-10-2009

Absolutely the building is permitted, I drew up the plans myself. It is 100% to code.
