Appliances delivery - StillHope - 04-11-2009

I haven't decided yet whether I am going to buy a stove an a refrigerator here and ship them with my other stuff or buy them when on BI.
Some stores here in SD (I think Home Depot is one of them) will deliver free if it's more than $450 or so.
Any free delivery from Hilo appliance stores?
I mean,on the regular basis?

You can buy your appliances there with a delivery here if there is such a store here. You will have to pay for the delivery though, unless they have a free delivery promotion going on here.

Going to Home Depot.com shows that they have free delivery to 96778 and I checked some prices and they seem to be the same for here and the mainland.

We had a friend who purchased on the mainland and then rented a place here that had a fridge. They put the new one in storage. When they went to use the new one,it was defective and the warranty had expired.

Sears has free delivery too but you can't check online what is in stock in Hilo. They do have about every kind of appliance you could want though.

Thank you,John and Obie!
So there's no free delivery (for certain models)on the regular basis ?

Home Depot is advertising free delivery on all their appliances.

You can get appliances at Sears, pay $60 or $70 for delievery and then mail in a rebate form and get it back (sometimes minus $10). We bought several appliances at different times and always got the rebate, however I don't think it's something you can rely on all the time. You have to wait till they run the rebate program.

I have found consistently that major appliances (fridges, washing machines, dishwashers, etc) are around $100 more expensive in Hawaii, as someone has to pay the shipping costs one way or the other.

It makes zero sense to buy appliances on the mainland and pay to ship them over, unless you are already shipping a container and you have extra space anyway. Since the other person noted that Home Depot not only offers free delivery but has the same prices as on the mainland, just buy after you arrive.

We bought a Sears Trio in the Chicago area less than 2 years before we moved... it was a scratch & dent & delivery was not included.

After we bought our house here, the Hilo Sears had a Trio (same color... newer model) in their scratch & dent sale, it was $100 less than the Chicago one we bought less than 2 years before & we were able to get a delivery rebate (we purchased the extended warranty on both)

So.... based on our very limited experience... we did better buying in Hilo...

Thank you,everyone.
Basically,my container will be half empty, that's why I thought I might as well buy the stuff.

Any thoughts of making that empty space available for someone else to use?
