I happened onto a new restraunt in Hilo located in the old subway space on Keawe st.(across from Spensers Gym). It turned out to be a new business by Chef Jorge, whom some of you may know from Pohoiki. Burritos and Tacos done Subway style where they are assembled as you pick out the ingredients. Coconut scented rice, fresh cilantro, papaya salsa, spinach tortillas, etc, etc.............Home made Ice Cream!
All done quickly and at very reasonable prices.

Some people at work went there for lunch today, and I looked at thier burritos when they got back. One was like $6, and the other was like 8. And both were like half the size of the $5 burrito from maui tacos.It might have been damn tasty (I didn't even ask), but the portions vs the price were pathetic. I adore mexican food though, so I imagine I'll be going ther eventually. I hear there is a good mexican joint in shipman business park thats open for lunch. I need to check that out too.

I think the Shipman place is the manufacturer of Big Island Tortillas and salsa. I love their salsa, but don't get into shipman much.
My burrito from Bueno Burrito was huge. They're new, so maybe they're still getting out the.........I won't say it.

Also it should be Buen Burrito... or Burrito Bueno... but not Bueno Burrito....it just doesn't sound right...however it tastes really good! Lo Recomendo para todos!!!

OK- I hate to talk stank about anybody who is trying to build a legit business - the people were super nice there, but I didn't love the food.
I spent a lot of time in Mexico and had some great food there, so that's a tough act to follow - But next time I hanker for a burrito in Hilo, I'm headed to Maui tacos too - until I find da kine.

Mitzi, when you come to Kona go to Tacos El Unico, a REAL Mxican place! No Tex-Mex, no Cal-Mex there. In fact, they didn't even have an English menu until just a few months ago.

The Shipman place is Emmas, they are open or breakfast & lunch.
They have the Big Island Tortilla behind the small restaurant
Jimbo likes the food - good quality & quantity (OK, for him those should be reversed...)
John, the young'uns in the field study course I took last year introduced me to Tacos el Unico.... yum, however it is a LONG drive for tacos..
