Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - mella l - 05-23-2009 Do you have a favorite beach on Oahu? I'm looking for a beach with a bit of shade in the PM, a gentle surf for dipping and maybe a bit of snorkeling. I think this beach might be it, but might not! Kawela Beach Kamehameha Highway, North Shore Located just east of Sunset Beach, this rocky and sandy beach is almost as popular. Great reefs and tidepools make this area an excellent site to snorkel, wade and scuba dive during the summer months when the ocean is calmer. Sunsets during the summer are also exceptional along this coastline. http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/beaches/kawela_beach.htm The phantom husband and I will attend the wedding of friends and get to spend a bit of time visiting. So if you have a favorite Oahu beach please share it with us! Mahalos plenty, mella l RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - the hare - 05-23-2009 well since I lived very close to it for 28 years, Yes i would have to say Kailua/Lanikai....Lanikai is a smaller beach comm. area just round the bend from kailua beach.....spectacular...better snorkeling in Lanikai however RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - mella l - 05-23-2009 Thank you hare for the suggestion, that is one beautiful beach so I'll certainly put it on the list! Beautiful, gentle and the water looks so clearly gorgeous! mella l RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - Genxor - 05-23-2009 I would have to second Kailua as my ( our ) favorite beach on Oahu. It's beautiful in all directions, not too touristy and it has become the only beach we go to on Oahu. Wait - no it's horrible - stay away ! LOL. RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - LeeE - 05-23-2009 Make that three votes for Kailua/Lanikai. Gorgeous beaches, gentle waves, ect. RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - Guest - 05-23-2009 I lived on Oahu for the past decade. Depending on the conditions... I highly recommend "Cockroach Bay": Second to last beach on the following. Don't leave your valuable in your car... "Cockroaches" may take them. http://www.hawaiibeachcombers.com/east-oahu.html --------- Damon Tucker's Blog FBI Blogs RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - Ed Smay - 05-24-2009 When Ralph and I are on Oahu, we only stay in Kailua/Lanikai. It is our favorite beach there. Nice quiet beach, you can learn to windsurf and it gets afternoon shade because the sun sets on the other side of the Island. In the morning, people jog and walk their dogs as the sun comes up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2M7nMEG-Q8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHYWWEGvT3Y&feature=related Kailua is the bedroom community for those who work in Honolulu. Hope this helps Ed "From knowledge comes understanding" RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - mella l - 05-24-2009 Thank you thank you! Great youtubes. Ed do you stay in a B&B or a VRBO when you are there? mella l RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - Ed Smay - 05-24-2009 We usually look for a small cottage or a guest house on the properties. email me and I can give you some old contact information. ed_smay@yahoo.com Ed "From knowledge comes understanding" RE: Favorite hang out beach on Oahu? - wyatt - 05-24-2009 We like the beach in front of this condo complex. Located in Waianae. It is sandy and good snorkeling if waves aren't to big. The sunset from these condos is awesome. The crowd is small as 2 condo building flank each side of the beach access path. Easy to miss. There are vation rentals there. It is a little wild west over that side of the island but we love it. Next beach down is Makaha beach. It is beautiful famous for it's surfing http://www.makahabeachcabanas.net/ Aloha Wyatt "Yearn to understand first and to be understood second." -- Beca Lewis Allen |
