Luau - jdirgo - 08-07-2006

I had a chance over the weekend to go to the luau show at the Sheraton Keauhou (over Kona side). The show was great, the food was excellent and all in all, I recommend it a lot. I think the rate is $80 for visitors and something like $55 for kama'aina. The show is called Kamaha'o and tells stories of many of the myths and legends of old Hawaii through hula, fire dance and a aerial ring routine you have to see to believe.

thanks for the heads up on the luau at the sheraton....

I wonder if anyone has found any good deals to take advantage of for kama'aina on the west side or other islands - this would be great to share with all the members.

thanks

That's a huge turnaround from my experience there three months ago. They were not using an imu, the pig was in the oven in the kitchen swimming in liquid smoke. I stick with the Kona Village for a luau. It's expensive but it's clearly the best.

Another West side deal (well, kind of) is the Hilton. Kama'aina rates are about a hundred bucks less than standards rates. A room will run about $175 (I did say kind of a deal) rather than $275.

What do you have to show to get the Kama'aina rate? I don't suppose a Hawai'i County tax bill is enough ;-).

RE: Luau - emorata - 08-08-2006

when i inquired at a few places, most required a hawaii drivers license, property tax bills or any bills do not qualify so if you live part time on the island - discounts don't apply as far as run into with a few places i approached

A new group just took over running the luau show at the Sheraton. I think its improved with the new people.
