Which weed eater do you like? - csgray - 06-21-2009
Well, I haven't been able to convince the dogs to become grazers, and I'm not ready for sheep yet, so we need a weed eater. My husband is very tall and some are just not designed for people over 6'2". Which machines do people really like, especially those of you who are height enhanced? Mahalo.

Once you drop down from the pro price range it doesn't really matter. If money isn't an issue go with the Echo. The're too expensive for me. I have Ryobi.

Having become way tired of replacing cheap equipment, we've shifted strategy and bought good ones. We purchased a Shindaiwa from Tex's for the weedwhacker, and have been very happy with it. Friends just purchased a Stihl with the Easy start feature. We have a Stihl chainsaw with the feature, and it's the first one I've ever been able to start on my own! Well worth the extra $$. Buying a good one is way cheaper than buying a couple of them over the years.

I buy the really cheap ones (Craftsman) at Sears for about $130.00 and then get a 3 or 5 year maintainence contract for another $100.00 dollars. It's still cheaper with the maintainence contract than getting an quality one for $400.00. And if anything breaks or doesn't start for 5 years...just bring it in!

Do a search on "high wheel trimmer" ... It is my favorite yard tool these days
A 22 inch cut 6.5 hp string trimmer on 2 big wheels, I bought the unit from Amazon, not finding one in stock locally

I only buy Sears equipment that have no moving parts. On that basis I like Sears.
For weed whackers I have been getting good Shindaiwa units from eBay in the $100 to $200 range with shipping.
Seems a lot of landscapers are laying off and selling off in California.

I have 4 weedeaters, poulan, craftsman, homelite,echo. The best of them is the echo the worst is the craftsman. I would like to try a shindaiwa sometime.

Got Sophie a shindaiwa from Garden Exchange, but not until our ryobi gave up the ghost and 2 replacement ryobi (I wanted to use my attachments) and 1 craftsman each lasted less than a week. The shindaiwa has been a workhorse for 3 years. And Sophie is so cute wearing the vest
One nice point about Garden Exchange is they carry a wide array of models, so you can get the feel of what's right for you.

I've kept goats before, my first daughter was allergic to cow's milk and goat milk was super expensive so I became a goat keeper. Never again, I like goats as long as someone else is responsible for keeping them within the fences and away from the trees and plants you don't want them to eat. We are having enough trouble keeping my puppies in. They are positively goat like in their ability to get through itty bitty holes in the fences. Sheep are on the agenda, but not for a while, thus we need a weedeater.
