Naeole faces more ethics charges - Rob Tucker - 08-12-2009

New complaints alleging Naeole has violated both county and federal law were filed last Monday with the Ethics Board.

Naeole allegedly gave a "thumbs down" gesture when members of the public testified June 16 that Naeole should not be made County Council vice chairwoman.

RE: Naeole faces more ethics charges - JerryCarr - 08-12-2009

The boorish behavior in question seems to be pretty much typical for Emily Naeole. While it is disrespectful and annoying, it probably won't result in much more than an admonition to "be nicer." The religiosity, if forcibly imposed on others, could be more serious, but just constantly shouting about it and claiming a direct line to God is something that a LOT of politicians have done.

So this is just more of Emily being Emily, but it could get dicey if a violation of the law is determined to have taken place. Frankly, I'll be surprised if the Ethics Board does anything serious. It doesn't seem to be in their nature.

I know that this is old news, but I talked to someone close to the Mayor today who thinks the current clampdown by the corporation counsel, gagging the public's right to know is a good thing because he thinks some people are making charges against Emily for political reasons. This doesn't sound like the transparency Billy touted when he was running. Sounds like they want to put everyone who works for the county into a cocoon to protect them from us pain-in-the-ass taxpayers.

As a relative newcomer to Puna politics, I am continually amazed by mayor Billy and his cronies Mushroom management approach to open government IE "keep them in the dark and feed them lots of s**t". Anything that crew can do to stifle public input or knowledge of government activities is apparently OK. Of course, not having voted for that idiot may color my perception, but I don't think so.[Sad]
