Visiting Kauai - julieb - 07-10-2009

We will be spending a few days on Kauai and I'm looking for tips on good places to eat, visit, snorkel, etc. We like "hole in the wall" places better than the big commercial operations. We have been quite a few times so have seen most sights but there are always new things to learn!

Try Hawaiian Style Beachfront B & B. More information is at www.kauai.net/anahola/. It's in Anahola, Hawaiian homelands, by a beach. Michael & Sondra Grace are very interesting, warm people. Call me if you want more information 982-8197. Markie

There is a little shopping center in Hanalei that has a small breakfast/bakery type store. The banana pancakes are wonderful!! Not sure of the actual name, but we ate there every morning.

Over in Poipu Beach, don't miss the Puka Dog stand! Most delicious!

Tunnels Beach on the North shore has great snorkeling. A little difficult to find parking, a medium walk to get there, and a fair swim to get out to the reef, but once you get there, it's pretty much fabulous.

Aloha! ;-)

Agree with Dennis the bakery/breakfast place. It has the best Haupia
Cake/pie I have ever had.
It has shortbread crust, Haupia layer and coconut cream filling top with mac nut or coconut sprinkles( can't remember ).
Buy early this one goes fast. We had a hole sheet cake size made once for a special event. Everyone loved it.

I got married on Annini beach, and stayed in one of the vacation rentals right next to, it's beautiful there

I second John for the Portuguese Bean Soup

Kountry Kitchen Restaurant - (808) 822-3511 for breakfast!

It's in Kapaa...the food is wonderful and reasonably priced and the people there are really sweet.

I always love to go to Dukes in Lihue...yummmmm. Great atmosphere and lots of great menu choices. If it's your birthday you get a free piece of hula pie. If you've never had hula pie, you haven't lived! LOL!
