What would you want covered? - csgray - 07-15-2009

On a lighter note, I heard a great Island/Hawaiian cover of a 4 Non Blonds song yesterday on the radio and it started me thinking about how Island/Hawaiian bands do so many great covers of both obscure and famous songs.

So my question is: What favorite song do you think would be great reinterpreted Island style?

How about tweaking the words of Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land ...the rhythm would be easy."

"Fire on the Mountain" from the Grateful Dead is an obvious choice!

The Pahinui brothers do a great cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy".

Carol, don't be jealous but I have a bootleg CD of Greatful Dead playing nothing else but covers! It's awesome!

I would love to hear a cover of Sonia Dada's "Raise the Roof Beam" or "Cry" SD was a great band out of Chicago who disappeared when the principle song writer and band leader became a film maker instead. I also think "These Boots are Made for Walking" would make a great Hawaii pop radio hit. Can't you just hear a tight chorus of local girls tearing it up on that one?
