book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - asly - 09-08-2009 Hi there, I have tried searching for this but I must not be putting in the right key words. I know the topics are not that old either as I remember reading some of the posts containing book suggestions within the last 6 months. Looking for suggestions on books for growing tropical fruit and landscaping in Hawaii. Thank you! Ann RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - Liz - 09-08-2009 Ann, When you're here next month, you can have a look through my library. Meanwhile, here are a couple titles specific to growing fruits in Hawaii: Growing Fruits in Hawaii..., by Kathy Oshiro Plants of Hawaii: How to Grow Them, by Fortunato Teho aloha, Liz "The best things in life aren't things." RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - asly - 09-08-2009 Thanks so much Liz! We are so looking forward to our time at your place. Best, Ann RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - jdirgo - 09-08-2009 The Oshiro book is excellent. Simple, but great information. Also, thank you James, I need to keep expenses down so love to find links on the web specific to the subject. RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - robguz - 09-20-2009 Fruits of Warm Climates. Big and expensive but very comprehensive. http://www.amazon.com/Fruits-Warm-Climates-Julia-Morton/dp/0961018410 RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - Carey - 09-20-2009 Ann, the Library system here has a number of books - All state libraries are interconnected, so you can get a book from any, and you can even check out one library & return at another - open to all residents. The University library has many resources you cannot get otherwise - residents can read in the library, only students/faculty can check out & interlibrary loan. RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - asly - 09-21-2009 That's great info Carey, I'll have to check it out on one of our longer trips. I wonder if I can get a card prior to becoming a resident... like when I'm staying for a month, but possibly own my home there yet... RE: book suggestion for growing tropical fruits - Carey - 09-21-2009 The Hawaii Public Library System card is free to residents (with a photo ID and proof of address) and they have 2 rates for non-residents, a $25 card that is good for 5 years and a $10 visitors card that is good for 3 months Info? link to the HPLS library card info: http://www.librarieshawaii.org/services/libcard.htm |
